ARTIST SPOTLIGHT - REBECCA LOUISE LAW
•Posted on April 28 2020
Art and self-expression is profoundly important at Mint. We find inspiration for so many aspects of our stores through artists past and present, abroad and right here in our neighborhood.
All the way from across the pond hails female British Installation Artist artist Rebecca Louise Law enchanting with us her ethereal, dreamy floral creations. She is best known for artworks created with natural materials, - something so deeply symbolic of and connected to femininity. Law 'creates stunning installation art made from thousands of real flowers, suspended with copper wire. Exploring the relationship between humanity and nature, the artist transforms art galleries, museums, and other public spaces into immersive indoor gardens that “cocoon” the viewer with floating flowers and gorgeous spectrums of color.' What we find most interesting in her work is her choice in medium
and the artist restrictions that come with the territory. Normally speaking, flowers are either the subject of a still life painting, potted in your garden or freshly cut and placed into a vase for you to throw out only a day or two later. Never are they hung from your ceiling in volume
The choice of flowers as her medium and space as her canvas highlights another theme in her work: women and the world we live in, our role as not only beautiful creatures to behold but also to respect and adore.
