Iconic Classic Double Flap shoulder bag in a quilted, soft, true black lambskin leather and accented with 24kt gold-plated hardware.
About the Classic Flap: Few bags can claim that they have grown in popularity (and value) since 1955 -- and the Classic Flap is one of them. Launched in February 1955, Coco Chanel coined this style "2.55" named after the year and month it was released, February 1955. The bag featured a rectangular turn-lock closure and a long chain-strap because Coco Chanel was tired of carrying her purse in her hands. Every feature on this iconic bag was designed with Chanel's past in mind. The bordeaux lambskin leather is a nod to the uniforms the nuns wore in the convent Chanel grew up in. The leather woven chain link strap is a reference to the chain belt the nuns wore and hung their keys from. The zipper interior pocket on the flap was said to have been designed to store Chanel's love letters from aristocratic suitors.
Thanks to the creative genius of Karl Lagerfeld, the bag was updated to the Classic Flap we know, love, and recognize and featured the new logo 'CC' closure instead.
